Overview

This workshop introduces the key principles associated with implementing effective and engaging thinking into learning environments, providing participants with a foundation understanding to a wide range of cognitive and collaborative thinking tools .

These graphic organizers will assist you to extract more information and feedback from your students so they will be fully engaged in your lessons and feel successful. You will minimize boredom, disruption and off-task behavior.

Throughout the workshop, participants will be given opportunities to transfer the thinking tools to their personal teaching and learning activities.

  • Establishing a Thinking Skills Framework

    How to use and understand strategies to enhance ‘foundation’ and ’higher-order’ thinking and learning outcomes into your learning environment.

    This framework (see quick guide below) will help you design questions and activities in record time, It will keep you totally focused and make you an explicit teacher so students know exactly what is required and how to achieve it.

    The workshop addresses the six levels of thinking from Blooms Taxonomy with practical tools and templates you can use immediately with your classes.

  • Foundation Thinking Tools (Remember, Understand and Apply)

    Simple tools and activities to help learners Remember and Understand your materials. This is the launch pad for higher order thinking and set the ground work for student success making your teaching and planning so much easier

  • Critical Thinking Tools

    Simple tools to help learners understand how to Analyse, Evaluate and Design your materials and curriculum content at a deeper level, and to prepare for lifelong learning, which is about making sensible and safe decisions.

  • Creative Thinking Tools

    Simple tools to help learners generate creative and lateral thinking responses. The value here is that students will become creative in formulating innovative alternatives and solutions to the challenges you set. This gives them a sense of enthusiasm, ownership and personal success. This will enhance your relationship and stature with your students.

  • Co-operative Thinking

    Simple tools to help learners work co-operatively with your materials and curriculum content. By using cooperative thinking tools, you will be required to lecture less, they will learn more and be more productive with your materials. They will learn the practical value of team work and co-operation from you.

The Quick Guide to the Thinking Skills Framework is based on the new Bloom’s Taxonomy. Learners will leave this workshop with an understanding of this framework and the tools to confidently embed it into their teaching and planning regardless of subject content.
